Youth & Family Services

Youth and Family Services

Parents are raising their children in an increasingly complex society with issues as diverse as the individuals involved. Our licensed professional social worker and MSW student interns will work with you to develop an individualized approach to address the specific challenges you and your family face. Services can include:

  • Assessment of Need
  • Resource and Referral Provision
  • Short-Term Counselling
  • Life Coaching
  • Individualized Therapeutic Case Management
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Support Groups (as available)

Fee: The only fees assessed are those for short-term counselling. Our 50 minute individual/couple/therapy sessions are based on family income and offered on a sliding scale. Fees vary from $50 down to $5. Our objective is to provide affordable therapy, accessible to all income levels.

Capacity: Interest in our high quality sliding scale fee therapy services is high. Please be aware that when you contact our Intake Specialist you may be advised that we are at capacity. We do not currently operate a waiting list therefore you may be referred to other community providers when JFS is not able to assist you.

Intake: Please call (734) 769-0209 to complete a short telephone interview with one of our Intake Specialists to discuss your needs and goals. Because of limited staffing hours, all initial requests for service are handled on the phone only. Based on your initial assessment, the Director of Crisis Management and Community Services will speak with you to determine if immediate referrals to other community providers are the most appropriate recommendation at that time.

Note: The majority of these services will be provided by an MSW intern specializing in work with children and families. All work is supervised by the Director of Crisis Management and Community Services.

If you are facing a mental health emergency:

Please call 911 or Psychiatric Emergency at U of M at (734) 936-5900.

Pre and Post Adoption Support

Building a family through adoption is a journey that begins the moment you imagine it and lasts a lifetime. Our licensed professional social worker will accompany you on this journey by providing initial therapy, connections to appropriate resources (including a list of home-study agencies), and follow-up services/support once the adoption is complete.
