At Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County (JFS), we believe that being a helper means leading with compassion, accuracy, and respect. Refugees resettled through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program arrive with legal status and the right to live, work, and build their lives in the United States. Below are constructive ways community members can be helpers. Lead With Facts and Calm Misinformation spreads fear. Refugees in our community are here legally, often after years of vetting and international coordination. When conversations about immigration arise, sharing accurate information helps counter stigma and prevents unnecessary panic. Being a helper means grounding conversations in truth and empathy. Support Access to Legal Information Access to reliable legal information is critical to safety and stability. You can help by:

By supporting programs like counseling, youth mentoring, food access, and employment support, you help create environments where refugee families feel seen, supported, and safe.
