JFS Spousal Caregiver Support Groups: Finding Strength in Community

2/25/2025

Are you caring for a spouse or significant other with a chronic illness, disability, or age-related challenge who is 60+? If so, you may be experiencing a mix of emotions—love, dedication, exhaustion, and stress. Caregiving can be deeply rewarding, but it also comes with unique emotional and physical demands that can feel overwhelming at times. Finding support, connection, and resources is essential.
One way to navigate the challenges of caregiving is by joining the Spousal Caregiver Support Group at Jewish Family Services (JFS). These groups provide a safe space to share experiences, express emotions, and receive guidance from others who understand the journey. Educational content is facilitated by a licensed JFS Social Worker and is open to anyone who cares for their spouse or significant other. Meetings take place on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:00 p.m. (except in August and December) and are virtual. The 2025 meeting dates are April 28, May 26, June 23, July 28, September 22, October 27, and November 24.

Spousal caregiving can feel isolating, but you don’t have to face it alone. These support groups offer emotional support, educational resources, and practical caregiving strategies. Caregivers can connect with others who truly understand their experiences, learn self-care techniques, and gain valuable knowledge from each other. Many caregivers struggle with feelings of guilt, frustration, and exhaustion. Joining a support group reminds us that we are not alone and that taking care of ourselves is just as important as caring for our loved ones.

If you are interested in joining, visit: form.jotform.com/JFSannarbor/scs to sign up.

For more information, please contact Roberta Hirshon, MA, LMSW, at 207-233-1051 or [email protected].

You are not just a caregiver—you are a spouse, a partner, and a person who deserves care, too.
You don’t have to do this alone—JFS is here for you.
