Prioritize Your Mental Health

5/1/2025

As we observe Mental Health Awareness Month this May, we’re given the opportunity to reflect on the importance of mental health, how it affects our overall well-being, and make it a priority. Mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, and stress affect millions of individuals each year. Unfortunately, mental health challenges are often still met with stigma, preventing many from seeking the help they need. Untreated mental health can lead to more severe issues that may impact personal relationships, work performance, and overall quality of life.
Despite the benefits, many hesitate to seek therapy due to misconceptions or fear of discussing personal struggles. However, therapy goes beyond just talking; it helps individuals develop coping strategies, build self-awareness, and manage emotions more effectively, leading to positive mental and physical outcomes. Thrive Counseling at JFS provides a positive approach to mental, emotional and behavioral health and provided services to over 500 clients last year.

People attend therapy for a variety of reasons, whether because of a pattern of internal pain, daily life stressors, or difficulties within their relationships. This pain can involve feelings of anxiety, sadness or depression, loneliness, grief, frustration, anger, or even adjustment to life changes. Our team of therapists are skilled, compassionate, and dedicated to providing holistic, culturally sensitive care. Our clinic is a training site for master's level professional counseling and social work students, who work in close consultation with their fully licensed supervisors, to provide high quality counseling. We offer individual counseling for adults and school-aged youth (ages 5-17), as well as couples and family counseling. Counseling is offered via telehealth or in-person with some evening appointments available, depending on client preference and therapist availability. In addition to English, Thrive therapists also speak Spanish and Russian.

Over the last several years, Thrive has benefited from several fruitful training and funding opportunities to increase access and better service delivery for clients. Beginning in the fall of 2024, JFS was awarded multi-year grant funding through SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) to be able to expand services for youth, focusing on the treatment of trauma and grief for underserved and marginalized populations. Thrive staff have completed training and offer group services at schools through the use of Trauma Systems Informed Therapy for Refugees (TST-R). TST-R is both a clinical model for the efficient and effective treatment of children impacted by trauma, and an organizational model to guide the successful integration of trauma-informed, culturally responsive care into organizations' existing system of care. We are excited to offer these inclusive and growing services at Thrive Counseling!

To access Thrive Counseling, you can request services online using the following link or call 734-436-4249 to complete a brief screening over the phone.
