ELDERLINK

Picture
Meeting the physical, spiritual and social needs of the Jewish community through cultural training, education and programming to caregiving organizations.
In lieu of dedicated Jewish senior independent, assisted living and nursing facilities in Washtenaw
County, ElderLink offers dynamic programming to organizations committed to providing culturally
conscientious care to their communities. Improvement in cultural competence has been
shown to contribute to client and staff referrals, acquisition and retention.

Supporting your clients’ ability to maintain their cultural practices...
  • Easier adaptation to new environment
  • Continuity of previous life activities
  • Maintenance of familiar roles and adoption of new ones
  • More life satisfaction and well-being

Proceeds from the ElderLink program directly support the caring, feeding, transporting, resettling, educating, training and support of vulnerable citizens in Washtenaw County.
TRAININGS FOR ELDERLINK PARTNERS COVER THESE TOPICS AND MORE:
  • Judaism 101: Culture & History
  • Jewish Holidays and Celebrations
  • Issues specific to Jewish Older Adults
  • Local Jewish Community resources
  • Kosher and Kosher-style dining options
  • Materials for holiday celebration, including Judaica items and music
WHY CULTURAL HUMILITY MATTERS IN CAREGIVING
As our older adult community becomes increasingly diverse and multicultural, health care providers have been encouraged to become aware of cultural differences and their impact on health.

It is impossible to know everything about every culture. As a result, trainings that focus only on facts have limitations and are best combined with an approach that provides skills that are more universal. Curiosity, empathy, respect and humility are some basic attitudes that have the potential to help the clinical relationship and to yield useful information about the patient's individual beliefs and preferences. Improved cultural training has many rich benefits to your organization.
  • Expands treatment opportunities
  • Improves a program's ability to treat all clients
  • Requirement of many funding and accreditation bodies
  • Contributes to improved client referrals, acquisition and retention
