At JFS, we believe every young person deserves the support, tools, and opportunities to thrive. From mentoring and tutoring to counseling and community connection, our programs empower refugee and immigrant youth—and all young people in our community—to succeed in school, build resilience, and grow into confident adults.

RISE: Refugee Youth Support
Our RISE programs help refugee and immigrant youth adjust, succeed, and belong.

• Youth Mentoring – One-on-one mentoring, ELL support, after-school tutoring, and peer groups to build academic and social success.
• Youth Groups – School break programs focused on civic engagement, wellness, and career/education planning.
• JFSupport – One-on-one school tutoring during the academic year.
• Refugee School Impact – Helping ORR-eligible students excel in school, access childcare, and adjust socially.
• Youth Scoop – A monthly newsletter to keep youth informed and connected.

Thrive: Mental Health & Wellness for Youth
Our Thrive clinicians support children and young adults (ages 5–25) and their families through life’s challenges. We provide a safe space to address:

• Depression, anxiety, trauma, and grief
• Academic stress and peer relationships
• Difficult emotions and life transitions

Thrive Services include:

• Individual & Family Therapy – Goal-focused counseling in a supportive environment.
• Youth Groups – Trauma Systems Therapy for Refugees (English/Spanish) and social-emotional learning groups.
• Community Outreach – Workshops and presentations for schools and organizations.
• Training Future Clinicians – Internships for graduate Social Work and Counseling students.

Nourish Nutrition Services
Food Programs – JFS offers pantry access for households with youth, including Medically Tailored Meals and Healthy Home Delivered Meals available for eligible children with nutrition-sensitive conditions (through Medicaid).

Additional Youth Support

• JFSGO & Education – Transportation for unhoused students in Ann Arbor Public Schools; ESL, civics, and limited work-skills classes for ages 18+.
• Volunteer Opportunities – Most JFS volunteer roles are for ages 18+, but minors (with guardians) are welcome to inquire at Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County | Volunteer Application.
• Intergenerational Connection – Youth may participate in special programming at the WISE Senior Center. Contact Rebecca Neiubertt [email protected] or details.
• Community Assistance – Support with benefits, utility assistance, and other resources for families with children.
